Between fen and mountains

Not for me

While the visiting ringers were attempting a quarter peal, two groups sat outside ringing changes on handbells. I have tried this before and had another go but I don’t think I could master it. It is nothing like ringing handbells to a tune. It requires mastering the complicated mathematical patterns involved in change ringing and ringing one sequence with one hand and another sequence with the other hand. It is fiendishly complicated and has none of the physicality of conventional ringing.
I played an hours tennis this morning but was glad when my partner decided to abandon in the second set. We had been playing for an hour and it was swelteringly hot. I am still struggling with my back so it was for the best not play too long..
