Gifford

We are now in East Lothian in the Borders staying in a delightful little place called Gifford where we have never been before.

We left the house and Ullapool in sunshine. A quick visit into Ullapool but the shop I wanted didn’t open until 12.00, serves me right for earlier prevarication. There were marquees beyond the ferry pier for the Skiff Regatta taking place this weekend. One had the Ullapool emblem on it but I saw one from North Berwick,  which is very near to where we are now, and one from Orkney. They must have to time the races between the arrival and departures of the Stornaway Ferry.

After Inverness we drove mainly in rain. Stopped at Blair Athol for a coffee and to eat some sandwiches I had made. It’s called Food in the Park and we have sat out at tables in the past but not today. Back to lovely sun when we arrived here and after checking in we walked around the village.  The difference with the sun here and that in the Highlands this week is no wind!
Lovely stone or white painted houses in what appears to be quite an historic village, part of the estate of the Marquess of Tweeddale. Yester House is just at the top of the High Street with grand gates.
The residential bar is being refurbished so after our walk we went in the  public bar to get a drink and take it quickly out into the beer garden. The bar was packed with people watching football on a big screen. It was showing the Rangers v Hearts football final. It had just gone into extra time so we beat a quick retreat.

We’ve now just had a lovely meal and I’m doing this in the lounge as the Wi-Fi  is better. I can hear someone singing in the bar. ( Last year we were in Dundee when Scotland was playing England!)

The blip shows the pretty Yester church at the top of Main Street. The extra collage shows the Tweeddale Arms - bottom - where we are staying and the window boxes of nearby houses with fabulous Iris blooming in them.

Hard to leave today but nice to explore another area of the Borders on our way back.

Thank you for sharing our holiday with all your stars hearts and comments . Ooo and we saw a red squirrel today
