Sally Mair - Loving life

Orange blossom

Today we decided to get the bits to Kayakoya a deserted village in the hills between here and the sea. There is a mini bus that goes there once an hour, we were fortunate and waited only 5 minutes for it. Once there we decided not to go into the hills to explore the town as we've been there before. There are no roads only twisting paths. It is very steep and today was very hot so instead we planned to walk along the roads below.
The village is an ancient Greek site and was inhabited by Orthodox Greeks who were persecuted during the Turco-Greek war of 1919-22. Those of the population who survived were exchanged between Turkey and Greece after the war. Those who came to Turkey believed the village to be haunted by the spirits of those who had been tortured there and so refused to live there, and it became a ghost town and was abandoned, see extra.
We walked along the roads at the bottom of the hill which had many pretty villas interspersed with little farms. It seems to be a very fertile area. The blip is of some orange blossom, I thought blipper NadinePierce might be interested to see it, the scent was wonderful and so fresh.
