No Mow May

It's scruffy, unkempt and undoubtedly an eyesore to our neighbours, but this strip of ground at the side of the drive is our contribution to re-wilding and to No Mow May.

We did it last year and all sorts of wild flowers appeared. This year we have a group of cowslips as opposed to two plants.

I had wanted to take a better photo using my tripod, but I couldn't find the instructions for making it close to the ground. Hugely frustrating.

DIG hosted Levon Biss in a Zoom talk this afternoon. He has had a varied commercial career and taken some staggering photos. He uses lighting to control how his photos appear. One of his more recent projects has been to photograph insects in the Oxford University collection at extreme magnification. His exhibition of huge prints has toured the world. I've been lucky enough to find a book second hand on Abe Books.

More than one person asked on the Zoom chat when he was going to get to the macro. Amazing how people don't read all the details of a talk. It had been stated quite clearly that he would describe other genres in which he had worked. Files are gigabyte big. He can take hundreds if not thousands of photos to capture an insect in its entirety. That's some focus stacking.

Anyway, one attendee said he didn't have time to wait for the macro and abruptly signed off. Silly man.

Len is very unwell after his booster Covid shot yesterday. He's gone to bed in a darkened bedroom with paracetamol. I think I'll have GF pasta for tea.
