Stone Wheel Factory

Last day of our break, but before we set off home just time to fit in another walk. This time over the gritstone edges of Baslow, Curbar and Froggat. I've walked this way a few times before and the last time was when our lad's were younger and they were enticed up on to the edges of the Moors with the promise of seeing the stone age wagon wheels. In truth they are abandoned millstones, the millstone grit being quarried from the cliffs and fashioned in to stones where they fell and for whatever reason never used. The base of the cliffs are littered with dozens of stones. We made it back to the car just as the rain came tipping down. Pity the walkers we passed who still had 9 miles of a 25 mile fundraising challenge walk to do.
