Out to Lunch

On the way home from Chester yesterday, we stopped off at the lovely Art Deco Midland Hotel in Morecambe, to participate in the bank pensioners club AGM - the first one for three years and the first at this venue. Mrs C has been looking for a tin mug to take with her when she goes out walking, so was delighted to see this one for sale amongst various Art Deco themed souvenirs available at reception.
A good turnout for an AGM, no doubt helped by the fact that a heavily subsidised lunch was also on offer. Very nice it was too, though the service was quite slow. This was something we also noticed at my uncle’s party on Saturday so can only assume that a lot of hotels are suffering staff shortages. Whether that is due to the pandemic or the lack of foreign workers following Brexit, I wouldn’t like to say. Thankfully, the “official” part of the proceedings was short and to the point. There was a raffle afterwards and we won a box of chocolates, so a good end to the afternoon. It was nice to catch up with people we’d not seen for a while and hopefully there will be a good programme of events to look forward to this year.
Today has been about catching up with home life after the busy weekend away. We’ve done the weekly shop, I’ve replaced a leaking shower head and Mrs C has brought her WI paperwork up to date.
Just time for a bit of a sit down now before going out to a crisis meeting for the play. One of our cast, who has not been the most reliable when it came to rehearsals, finally stretched the director’s patience to breaking point. After a frank exchange of views, she has decided to withdraw from the process. With only just over one month to go, we need to decide how - or if - to carry on.
