One Way Or Another
The final part of this weekend’s entertainment - Blondie in concert. Should have taken place last November, but was delayed due to covid. Unfortunately, the delay meant two significant changes - one good (imo) one not so good. The “good” change was that the support act was Johnny Marr, rather than the previously announced Garbage. Nothing against Garbage, but I prefer the work of Mr Marr. He played an excellent set of old and new material, the Smiths numbers being particularly well received.
The not so good news was that Blondie founder Chris Stein was unable to travel due to heart issues. His place on bass was taken by ex Sex Pistol Glen Matlock, so the only “original” members of the band were the drummer, Clem Burke, and - of course - Debbie Harry. Considering those two are in their seventies, there was no lack of energy, with Miss Harry in particular doing more and more dancing as the night wore on. She might not be able to hit the high notes any more, but we were still treated to almost two hours of classic hits.
A great night out, well worth waiting for. And another tick in the “legendary bands I’ve seen” box.
