ANZAC Day
People start to gather for the Dawn Service at Muruika Urupa (Soldiers Cemetery) at Ohinemutu on the shores of Lake Rotorua. I reflect on how each ANZAC Day, even fifty years later my Dad struggled emotionally with the memories of his experieneces and of mates who never returned. And I think of the trauma and suffering currently being expereinced by millions and the scars they will carry for the rest of their lives. As always I am moved to tears as the Soldiers Hymn Aue Ihu which was suberbly sung by Raukura Kapa Haka from Rotorua Girls and Boys High Schools, their voices ring out across the Lake. As the service ends we turn and watch the sun rise on a peaceful Lake (extra) a scene so typical of what so many gave their lives to protect. Lest we Forget
