Arcade crossroads, Leeds
Many large towns and cities have or had Victorian shopping arcades. Many were torn down in favour of 'modernity' while others were allowed to quietly decay. Leeds did neither, but realised they were a valuable asset, and their beautifully preserved arcades now house up-market, specialist shops. No Poundlands , Cash Converters or Charity Shops here, but beautifully furnished and stocked niche shops and specialist outlets. The photograph shows part of the central dome and arched roofs of part of the Victoria Quarter in central Leeds, along with part of the spectacularly ornate upper levels.
