Diary of an Edinburgher

A Grand Day Out

Today Hazel came with us to the Van Gogh Exhibition, and what a fantastic thing it was too. It was such an amazing technical triumph, and the music was wonderful. But we were sad that we couldn’t sit in his wee bedroom (Extra) - apparently they didn’t have enough staff to cope with that. This shot was of our sharp black shadows against a huge projection of one of his self portraits.

After that we went to Dine, across the road, for lunch. And we had a fantastic meal. We all had something different, for both courses, and we were all well pleased with our choices. Hazel knew the maitre d’ from years ago, and so a complimentary glass of bubbles appeared.

But by this time I was getting concerned about Archie being left with his bone in the house for too long, so after my main course I got the bus home. And he didn’t seem at all concerned - he didn’t even bother to piddle when we went out to the back garden.

We then went down to the Meadows to look at the blossom, which is glorious. Glad we didn’t miss the display when we went away on holiday - they’re always a bit later than all the other blossoms. JR and Hazel then went into town, but only Hazel was doing the shopping.

JR eventually returned, having visited all the posh shops in town, where the staff in the Burberry shop (where they had complimentary bubbles as well) asked, ‘Where’s Archie?’ and I got a What’sApp photo of them enjoying a glass of wine out on the sunny balcony at Harvey Nick’s. She took Archie out for a big walk.

A grand day out.
