Chee Dale

Biting cold wind today so we chose to stay sheltered by walking the River Wye side paths that we could see from the Monsal Trail yesterday. It is possibly 20 years since I've been along the full length of the valley. The plan was to park the car at Blackwell Mill walk the riverside paths to Ashford in the Water. Stop for tea and cakes then finally walk the mile to our digs. I would then cycle back along the Monsal trail to pick up the car.

The image is Chee Dale. The River Wye here passes thru a narrow gorge with towering limestone cliffs so much so that the path for a few sections is on stepping stones. The river was reasonably low so passage was uneventful. I have been thru here when the stones have been submerged underwater for some sections. The image doesn't convey the grandeur of the gorge. It is akin to Conan Doyles lost world.

Tea and cakes was most welcome in Ashford when we finally got there. After a 10 mile walk cycling the 5 miles back to the car was hard on the old legs.

Steak pie, spicy potatoe wedges, vegs and glass of wine for tea. Beer and a bath later.
