Castle ruins
After shopping at the market, I went down t call me is four the second timeo a garden centre in a nearby village so that Mrs TT could buy some Mothers'day flowers with some cash sent by the youngest. After that we decided to walk up to the top of the village which we have driven past for 20 years but have never climbed to the castle ruins on the top of the hill. The village of Ria is called the cradle of Catalonia. The board describes in French, corrected in felt tip by someone insisting on the Catalan spellings, how each year three locals take three handfuls of soil from the village, three bags of salt from the coastal town of Collioure and three containers of thermal spring water from our village to the top of Canigou on Midsummers day. They then bring down the flame that has been lit on the top of the mountain to the village to light a fire. This flame is taken down the mountain to many villages in French in Spanish Catalonia.
