Cramond
I headed off down to Cramond after church this morning. The kirk there has a coffee shop open 9-3 Tuesday-Saturday. I had a very tasty bacon roll and then went off for a wander. The main blip is of a door on the little tower at the North West corner of the church. The text on the banner is the city of Edinburgh 's Latin motto: Nisi Dominus Frustra, meaning 'Except the Lord in vain'. It's a shortened version of a line from Psalm 127: "Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain". I wonder if it dates to the times of grave robbers or if it's simply a reference to the church.
From the churchyard I went into the tiny gatehouse gallery which had some rather nice bits of modern locally made glass and paintings for sale, and a very chatty proprietor.
I sent down to the shore next and walked along the river towards the mill, sadly the cafe along there has now closed, hopefully it will find new owners as it was always busy in good weather.
On my way back I spotted my first clump of celandine and sadly more damage from the storm. Sad to see this tree gone, its roots have long fascinated me.
When I got home I finished off a couple of tasks from yesterday then relaxed.
It's hard to believe but our lovely Josie is 6 months old today.
I'm off out to the Lent group this evening then an early night I think. This warm weather is lovely.
Stay safe folks
