Edifico Duque de Lerma

Hiding behind this tree is the colossal Edifice Duque de Lerma, once the tallest residential building in Castilla y León, built in 1970 and with a troubled history.. It is well situated on the banks of the Río Pisuerga, which was an unexpected delight today. The calm waters, just above a weir, by the Puente Mayor made me pause to take dozens of shots, some of which survived the post-lunch cull.

Further south along the river, I passed some attractively weathered boats, a very unusual piece of street art under the Puente de Poniente (NB - should that be "riverside walk art" or "bridge art"?) and Valladolid's own Millenium Dome. A quick visit to the Plaza de Toros and an encounter with a tame squirrel completed a very enjoyable morning.

PS - an interesting fact: The Spanish phrase "aprovechando que el Pisuerga pasa por Valladolid" ("And now since Pisuerga crosses Valladolid...") is a popular way to point or acknowledge a non sequitur since the river has no bearing on the following "consequence".
