Flower Friday : : Dutch Iris

John planted a lot of bulbs next to the stairs up to the upper terrace last year. One never knows what will actually bloom, but these were a definite surprise on several fronts. they don't usually bloom until May or June, and John planted bulbs not knowing what color they would actually turn out to be. Other than a single blue ones which bloomed in December, there has been no sign of the bearded irises he divided and transplanted from a raised bed with good soil to this somewhat less hospitable location. The plants all have minds of their own, (if plants can be said to have minds), this year. The grand plan is to have a 'hedge' of Irises and daffodils where there was once rosemary.

David finished 'setting' the toilet tank today and is hoping that Gustavo the tile guy will be able to come on Monday. Our move to the guest bathroom for the duration has Spike a bit befuddled. At the moment, we still have the use of the vanity and the shower, but we  won't move everything back again.

Dana and Jim are on their way to New York where they are going to stay in Matt and Amy's flat for a week. Dana just sent me a picture of their first class  'pods'. Neither of them has been there before, unless Dana counts our three month stay with John's sister in Greenwich Village when she was a year old. I found 1967 New York less than hospitable for a young mother, but perhaps things have changed a lot since then. Dana and Jim will have a good time.

Blake's accommodation here is a bit less posh than either a pod on an airplane or a flat in Chelsea...he has settled for the bath mats  which are now on the floor next to our bed....We will be leaving Blake and Spike to hold the fort when we go to friends' for dinner later. It's been a long time since we've gone out. I'm looking forward to it.

I have now made seven quilt squares, each completely different. I'm still not quite sure where it is going or if I will be able to figure out how to tie it all together. Too many wonderful new fabrics to work with and I'm too tempted to  use them all.  I usually find a way to restrain myself, but as a metaphor for life right now, maybe I won't try....It's a good excuse to put in my EarPods to block out the sound of the constant beeping of earth moving equipment  next door. We can't imagine what they could possibly still be doing over there. John thinks there must be some sort of problem, but I've given up on trying to figure it out. They have almost finished framing the first story of the house on the other side. No beeping equipment involved....

Thanks as always to Biker Bear for carrying on singlehanded with Flower Friday.
