Gnarled
A dreary, damp sort of day. I spent the afternoon looking a two new potential Nature Recovery areas. The first was in the village of Ufford, where there were several veteran Ash and Willow trees, including this gnarled and semi-hollow specimen located just behind the village hall.
More excitement at Northborough, where we discovered a row of ex-pollard willows, ancient and twisted, growing in the remains of the Car Dyke, a Roman watercourse probably associated with early fen drainage, though some parts were also used for transporting goods on boats.
