Egyptian potatoes

For once I had some cash so I was able to buy my veg from the stall holder in the Shawlands Arcade. These are in fact Cypriot potatoes which were sitting side by side with the Egyptian ones. The chap explained that both are grown from Ayrshire seed potatoes, their main market apparently, and the Egyptians import soil from Ireland to grow them. He also had a good supply for Tunisian dates to which I am currently partial, they are easy to eat while walking.
Lunch with V, in the new place that used to be the toilets in Queens Park, who is off to Cairo on Sunday, and has never eaten potatoes in Egypt. Given the number of cafes in the Southside I think a lot of people might have preferred the original use. That said the coffee was good and the Black Forest gateau delicious.
It did snow early on but the time I was up it had pretty much gone.
