Nothing Ever Happens

After all the excitement of yesterday, a much quieter day today. It wasn’t quite a case of nothing happening, but very close to it. Took mother for a hospital appointment first thing and then helped her do some shopping. Considering she has very little sight, she was zooming up and down the aisles like there was no tomorrow. It was left to me to apologise to all the people who had to jump out of the way to avoid being mown down by her trolley!
After lunch we went to Parkgate and the Dee Estuary marshes for Mrs C to do a bit of birdwatching. And she was not alone - the place was packed with twitchers. Too cold for me to stand around, but she spotted a Peregrine, a Marsh Harrier and a Hen Harrier (amongst others). She was told of a place where a Little Eared Owl might be seen so we drove a couple of miles up the estuary to try and find it.
We actually ended up in quite an interesting area - the site of the old Ness and Neston Collieries. Apart from some stones from the old quay and the obvious path of the old railway siding, there is nothing to show this was once a massive coal mine with tunnels extending two miles under the estuary. I spotted this sign on the gatepost of one of the houses we walked past.
So, with no sight of the owl, just as in 1832, nothing happened on this site 190 years later!
