Crew Classic Action
We spent all day at the San Diego Crew Classic, arriving at the ungodly hour of 6:30 a.m. and not leaving until after our daughter's final race in the late afternoon. What a spectacle! Over 4,500 participants, 125 races spread over two days, and more than 20,000 spectators. It was awesome being around such a huge event, even if we didn't totally understand what was going on all the time. It was difficult to photograph, the start was so far away from our position at the finish, but managed to capture many images of athletes frozen in action. I wanted something that conveyed the sense of speed (the fastest men's boats covered the 2 km course in under five minutes) we spectators felt while watching from the shore, so I tried some slow shutter speed shots of which this image was the most effective.
