Elizabethan and Victorian
We drove to town for coffee with Marion and Ken then had a 5 mile urban walk led by Ken from their house in Heaton. We went to Exhibition Park and Leazes Park in lovely sunshine. On the way back we went down St Thomas Crescent by the flat #3 daughter rented for a year. It was the upstairs of a house once lived in by William Scott Bell who entertained some of the Pre-Raphaelite artists there. He also set up the school of art.
It was lovely to see the beautiful red brick Newcastle university buildings and the contrasting modern ones of Northumbria University. But for my blip I liked the the difference between these 2 vertical blocks of flats and the horizontal row of old houses.
Lunch was delicious. Ken had made Focaccia and Marion a delicious beetroot soup. I took their photos with their cooking for my book. We had a lovely day catching up, discussing the news, Marion’s 80th birthday plans, her progress with her graphic novel, gardening, Ken’s pottery, his music and art.
We picked up Ella from school and brought her back for the night and tomorrow as her school is having a training day. She’s had a good day, the highlights being break to play with friends, lunch and drama. Now she’s freaking out because we were watching the news and there was no much about wars and killing people and then the holocaust. Wish me luck with bedtime!
