Grand Old Viking Centuries

A breezy day, various showers throughout the day, and mostly cloudy.  Drier tonight, still windy.

I've been working in the airport on early shift again today.  I was on the check-in desk first thing, and then spent the rest of the day working with oil and gas flights.  Met friend Julie for walkies with the dogs this evening, and now a quick cuppa, before an early night.

Up Helly Aa stops for nothing, is the old saying in Lerwick, yet here we are, no festival again this year.  We headed for a walk about town, thinking there might have been the odd torch lit, or met the squad of boys doing the charity walk around the hall route, but no, only broken glass, various blobs of vomit and plenty of dog faeces (not sure what's been going on in town tonight).  I was cheered up, when I came across Lynden Nicolson's Up Helly Aa display outside his home.  There was a Viking shield, galley head, town hall and Up Helly Aa procession, all lit bright with fairy lights.  He was also collecting donations for Cancer Research/Relay for Life.  Taken at Bruce Crescent, Lerwick.
