Re-cycled Cormorant

I walked the boys separately this morning and first I took Bobbie for a walk along the seafront while Milou stayed at home with Alan. I parked at Rhos on Sea and walked to Porth Eirias where I found the re-cycled cormorant sculpture.

The idea came from a Coleg Llandrillo student concept - the plastic in the belly of the sculpture highlights the issue of plastic on wildlife. It’s created with a frame of welded steel rod, with wings from old shelving panels, the feet are a pair of swim flippers, feathers are made from old bicycle tyres and tractor inner tube, wing peaks and chest from fly tipped quadbike mud guards. The tail and lower belly were made from an old plastic garden chair and the beak is a discarded yellow flexi plastic tube. Black land drainage pipe made the neck and single use plastic bottles can be seen in the belly. It’s amazing and I’ve added an image of the back of it in my extras.

Once home I took Milou out, had lunch with Alan and then had an afternoon doing admin. I got a call late in the day from the care home to say that mum had fallen when she went to the toilet and banged her head on the sink. They said she’s ok but they’ll keep their eye on her and get her checked by the district nurse. This reinforces why she’s better in the care home than going back to her own home. At least she has 24 hour care here.
