Life through the lens...

Who's been sleeping in my bed

What a wonderful surprise when we were shown our room, to find this large four poster bed!
It was very old, and I bet could tell a tale or two!!

The Old Lodge Hotel was once the gate house to the castle of Malton. Built in about 1604.
It was used as a hospital in the First World War. Then became a private dwelling, and then fell derelict for a while.
It was restored and opened for guests accommodation in 1996.

We arrived in time for MrC and A to watch the Grand National on TV, while K and I had a walk round the lovely old town of Malton. (Will be back again for the Food Festival in May)

We met up with some more friends for nibbles and champagne before the Dinner and Wine tasting.
What a wonderful evening.

Pink fizz from France as an aperitif.

First course, warm asparagus, wrapped in Parma ham, and parmesan shavings.
Wine white Bon Courage Unwooded Chardonnay from South Africa.

Second course. Chilli Tiger prawns, served with mange tout and pak choi.
Wine White ,Gewurztraminer, from Australia.

Third course. Roast beef and Yorkshire puddings. Assorted vegetable.
Wine red, from Northern Spain.

Fourth course. Dark chocolate and white chocolate mousse.
Wine. Sweet white, De Bortoli Show Liqueur Muscat, From Australia.

Then Cheese and biscuits, celery, apple, and nuts.
To drink a glass of Port.

Coffee to finish!

By this time everyone was feeling very happy, and the noise in the room must have been extremely loud, but I never noticed!!
( There were about 56 of us altogether, sat on one long table)

However the short quiz at the end, which was about the wines we had drunk, was won by........................Yours Truly!!!!!! (some people can hold their drink better than others!! MrC and A were well away by then! Mind you 3 beers while watching the Grand National had something to do with that!)

What a fantastic evening!
Glad we were staying the night!
Prize 2 bottles of wine!
