The Last Snowflakes
Today's image is of the light coming through one of our back windows which highlighted the fact that I'd forgotten to remove the last of the snowflake Christmas decorations from the glass but when I looked again at the shot I decided I actually liked their shape against the shadows of the all the other competing vegetation in our garden.
Watched a great programme on My5 today - Ben Fogle: New Lives In the Wild. Ben Fogle visited a remote corner of Mayo on the west coast of Ireland where an elderly couple (Georg, an Austrian, and his German wife, Bettina) had built an eco home on bogland 40 years ago. They way they had reclaimed inhospitable territory into a kind of demi-paradise was extraordinary.
It was also an emotional journey with some sombre truths including dark reflections on being born in postwar Germany and their feelings about the future when the hard work required to maintain their home may become too much. I must admit I had a bit of a tear in my eye at the end - but not in a bad way. They just seemed to be such lovely people.
