WITH A SONG IN MY HEART

10/365 A Struggle!

10/365.   Writing a Poem

I love it when some words comes to mind
And that urge to get them down on paper
To harness them fast before they’re lost forever.
I love the feel of a pencil in my hand
The smell of the wood after sharpening
A pencil with a rubber attached is best of all.
I love the sight of a blank page waiting for words
The process of writing them down and rubbing out
That one word, the wrong word, that doesn’t fit.
I love the satisfaction when the last line is written
Of reading it back in my head, scanning the rhythm
Then saying it out loud, the words rolling off my tongue.

I woke up this morning full of ideas for poems, I jotted down some lists as I sat in bed with a mug of coffee. Once I came down some ideas had flown.
I really must write everything down!
I started writing on my iPad but kept jumping from one idea to another. I had to have a break so I took Bella walkies after lunch and posted a birthday card to Diane (SiL).
Then I phoned Sue for a chat. She’s really struggling with her mobility and other aches and pains but I fear she’ll have a long wait for her hip surgery.
Anyway after that I felt more settled and able to write a bit. I’ve also been reading poetry from some of my favourite writers - Carol Ann Duffy, Wendell Berry, Mary Oliver, Philip Larkin and John Betjeman.

Frank found a big book of ‘The Works of Shakespeare’ in the bus shelter book box so he has been reading that today. Neither of us has read any Shakespeare, he said he’s quite enjoying it!

We’re planning a day out this week - Wednesday or Thursday depending on the weather. We haven’t been anywhere for ages. We’re thinking maybe Silverdale, near Morecambe.

I’m enjoying my new book - Where the Crawdads Sing.

It will be tea time soon and I can smell jacket potatoes - mmm my favourite! (among many other favourites!)

Thanks for all the comments, stars and hearts! :-) X
