We made great time and hit no traffic, (which is very unusual,) during our drive around NYC to Long Island. We picked our little guy, and he went off with us as happily as if he did it every day. We were quite pleased since we had not seen him since August. I guess those Facetimes really do make a difference, even when we have his attention for only a minute and then he is off to do other things.
We decided to have a late brunch at the hotel when we realized that the tables had all been placed at least 10 feet from each other and there were hardly any other people dining. We kept him all afternoon while our daughter-in-law and her family all went to the Islanders/Knights Hockey game. Fortunately, they had a box so did not have to worry about being close to the masses. Her brothers and father are all Islanders fans as you can see by the photo in extra of them all, masks on chins, posing with our son who is travelling with the Golden Knights team. They sent this to me after the game.
After they picked him up, we met close friends for dinner at a restaurant nearby that had been carefully researched by them to allow safe dining. We bundled up as we were going to eat outside, but instead, we ate on a partially enclosed terrace that had great heaters and we were the only people there! Between the heaters and a little vino, we warmed right up and it almost felt normal.
