Have Bicycle Will Travel

A much better weather day. We decided to walk through Skeghyll Woods and up onto Wansfell. Not the highest of mountains but one that holds lots of memories for us. We both have competed in the Wansfell Fell Race - now with creaky knees I can’t imagine how we managed it! We also have been up with our young men on various occasions.

I like the approach through the woods and across the fell rather than the more direct route up from Ambleside. The extra is on the approach across open fell.

The only downside was the descent - we really could have done with walking poles to take the pressure off the knees. However they had been left in the car…! We met a group of young cyclists on the way up with their mountain bikes. I definitely prefer riding than carrying a bike but they seemed to be enjoying their adventure. Not quite as bad as encountering the Snowden bike race where once across the start line the bikes were taken apart and carried up. A little more climb than these cyclists had to face.
