The Weddoes / 'Seamonsters'

I have almost certainly mentioned before how, during our teenage years, my brother's musical tastes were far more eclectic than my own. It was thanks to him that I went off to university with a working knowledge of popular music beyond the edges of the narrow furrow that I habitually ploughed. 

One of the bands that he introduced me to was The Wedding Present, and I did actually like a handful of their songs but it was the release of their third album, 'Seamonsters' that saw me become a fan in my own right.

This year marks the album's thirtieth anniversary, which is being celebrated with a tour by the band. For reasons I can't quite remember, but which may have been as simple as our love of the city, the Minx and I decided to see it in Edinburgh. 

Earlier in the day, though, I had a couple of lunchtime beers with my erstwhile colleague and, indeed, boss, Cameron, a lovely man with whom I worked twenty years ago. We met at Bennetts, which is a pub we sometimes frequented in the evenings back then, and - as ever when I see him - it was as if those intervening years hadn't happened and the time flew by.

Back to The Weddoes, though, and the delightful venue that is the Liquid Room, which is a wonderful size (i.e. not at all large) and has a balcony where the Minx and I could sip our drinks and from which we watched this tremendous band play my favourite album by them, which they did from start to finish.
