Diary of an Edinburgher

Forest walk

Another sunny, crisp day, so we decided to go for a walk with autumn trees. Where to? Dalkeith Country Park! Though we were rather shocked to being charged £3 to park for the first time. But anyway, it’s worth it for the lovely walk through the ancient oak trees.

So we set off, past the wonderful new ‘Go Ape’ - ladders and swing bridges high up between the trees for brave people (over 6 years old!) to walk along.

Three old ladies ladies of about our age met us coming down a muddy slope. Two of them made it, and third one stopped at the top and refused to try. So we went up and helped her down, one on either side. If she’d known how unsteady I am going down a muddy slope, she wouldn’t have held on to me with quite such confidence.

BUT… when we got up to the top to carry on the circular walk that we always do, through the ancient oak trees, there was a BIG fence, and a notice saying it was CLOSED to ‘allow regeneration’. Drat it. So we went another, shorter walk. And we also had a look round the shops, though didn’t have a coffee.

Yes, Archie was sick on the way home, but I had a big poo bag ready to shove his face into, so there was no mess. JR walked him home that last couple of miles, and he soon forgets.

In the afternoon, JR went off to Waitrose while I listened to my audiobook and dozed (in ten minute ‘sleep timer’ bursts).

Archie found a super big orange ball, but he couldn’t lift it up and carry it home, though he tried and tried. (Extra 1) I like to use the ‘Portrait’ setting on the iPhone, but it doesn’t always quite get it right (Extra 2).

There has been NO NOISE from upstairs tonight!
