Goodbye Celia…

We’ve said our farewells for now to Celia today. Lots of memories shared in tributes and in conversations after the service. She was a very memorable lady.

We went to the same church and our families were good friends for many years. Celia was a school teacher at my primary school, and was quite wacky for the time, always laughing and loved drama. She played the piano for assemblies and was a hugely enthusiastic choir leader at school, and at church for special occasions

She had a heart for people and for helping. Each Thursday, in her lunch hour, she took our mum shopping in her VW camper van. We didn’t have a car and Sainsbury’s was a good walk from home. On that day we had to stay for school dinner. She also got her three sons and we four girls involved in helping a neighbour who had triplets. We helped hold bottles at frantic feed times!

Life moved us all on but Ben and Celia and our parents always kept their strong friendship. Sadly Celia developed Parkinson’s disease and this took so much away from her. Her husband has dementia and he couldn’t really grasp the significance of today. But it was so good to talk with him and to catch up with their sons again.

Lots of happy memories and gratefuls today and we could almost hear Celia’s wonderful laughter sharing in the stories.

Thank you so much for the appreciation of the table covers yesterday! More memories shared! Blip is so good for that!
