Diary of an Edinburgher

Wee visitor

Gym this morning (JR, not me…) Archie went off with Robert. Though the day was inclement, Robert was confident that it would clear up. It did, but not till the afternoon, so they both came home drookit.

When everyone was out, I set to with the carpet cleaner to give the mat another go. The machine makes the most godawful loud high pitched whining noise when in use, so it’s best to do it when the young fella’s out.

JR went off to pick up a couple of new throws/mats to put on Archie’s side of each sofa. We have bigger throws for when, eg- Maggie visits and doesn’t sit on the doggie-designated places. .

We’ve been having wonderful meals for the past fortnight or so (Hazel’s ‘detox’ bowl meals) with some quite exotic ingredients (well, not exotic exactly, but not our usual fare). I fancied something more ‘ordinary’ tonight, so I made tea: vegetarian sausages, baked beans and spuds. Ordinary but nice, once in a while.

I’m enjoying Ben Fogle’s series on the Sacred Islands of Scotland. They just look SO beautiful. I’ve been to several of them, on a trip with Uncle A many years ago, as my paternal grandparents hailed from Lewis and Harris.

JR had been peeling more apples to make a cake, and in the sink there was the tiniest snail trying to make a getaway. He was about the size of my pinkie fingernail, and had no hope of escape, so I put him on a plant outside. Good luck snail! I’m always impressed how good the iPhone is on close ups. But I know the new iPhone13 has a macro lens…
