Diary of an Edinburgher

Cake!

Gym for JR, lie in for me. I feel a wee bit of a sore throat coming on, and had I been teaching, I would have lost my voice, which I did every winter. However, being a lady of leisure, I have no need to speak at all now.

We had invited the mum of a friend round for a cuppa. Her daughter is living in Perth (Australia!) at the moment, so she’s in a big flat all on her own. And in fact, she moved there just before lockdown, and so she hasn’t been able to meet many of the other residents.

Actually, Archie and I wandered round to collect her. Archie always looks in her gate when we pass, as we have visited the flat ages ago, and there was a big friendly Labrador, Asha, that he remembers.

JR had made blueberry muffins, and Mary brought lemon drizzle cake, so we had a lovely time, and Archie got unusually excited with all the cakery. So did I.

JR took him to the ‘yard for a dander, and they were quite taken with this impressive gravestone mausoleum, though parts of it have broken off.

We watched a bit of afternoon TV - we like those ‘A Place in the Sun’/‘Escape to the Country/Chateau DIY’ type shows. You don’t miss any plot if you doze off for a while. Which we both all did.
