Halcyon days

After yesterday’s rain the sun returned, punctuated by occasional scudding cloud surfing the stiff easterly breeze.

A morning in our new house prepping for tomorrow’s tradespeople’s arrival. A short walk to our daughter’s house with our son-in-law to borrow a trowel. So convenient to be so nearby. So easy to forget that because we are still living “out of suitcases” anything useful we think of is still in store 374 miles north of here!

My afternoon constitutional coincided with the passage of this steam locomotive* and six carriages on it home run from Cheltenham Race Course station.

I am sorry to report that the small crowd that gathered at this crossing point to watch the train seemed to exceed the fare paying passengers on board. It costs £1000 per loco per day to operate one of these mechanical wonders from yesteryear! No wonder the tickets to ride are so expensive. No surprise, therefore, that these carriages were almost empty.
