Standedge Tunnel
We were up early to be the first boat through the Standedge Tunnel this morning. Every boat has to have a pilot and boats enter one at a time with a 45 minute gap between each boat. It took us around 1.5 hours to navigate the whole distance, expertly driven by Annie's brother. We got to view the amazing construction from the front of the boat, an engineering experience with multiple different approaches to holding the tunnel together, some original, some enforced by repairs or modifications. High ISO was order of the day to capture it, an extra without the full beam of the torch shot at ISO 51000! As stated yesterday, it is the longest canal tunnel in the UK and it is quite an experience.
Once out, we travelled on stopping for a lovely late lunch at Uppermill before mooring a little further on.
Another lovely day on the water.
