Marsden

Day two of our floating holiday on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. It was always going to be a fairly relaxed day as we were only going to be able to get as far as the Standedge tunnel. We can only travel through it tomorrow (you have to book in advance). Having got to within 15 minutes of the tunnel mouth, we moored up and walked to where we will enter the tunnel tomorrow and had a nice lunch at the Canal trust cafe.

Whilst we couldn’t traverse the tunnel today, we were able to take a trip 500m into the tunnel on a guided tour boat with commentary. It is the longest, highest and deepest canal tunnel in the UK so there was lots of interesting history and info.

Late in the afternoon, we returned to the boat and I (Chris) took a walk into the village of Marsden for a small top up shop. I took some photos of the weir on the River Colne using the long exposure feature on the iPhone (see extra).

The blip was taken this morning just before we traversed one of several locks in quick succession.

Another lovely relaxed day.
