Artists’ Town
I left the happy family chaos early (they were all, including dogs, meeting up for breakfast at Kilmurry’s) and drove straight to Kirkcudbright for the last day of the Glasgow Girls and Boys exhibition. Well worth the trip in its own right, delighted to see James Nairn’s View of Corrie on Arran. I had imagined Kircudbright to be a bigger version of Corrie, I could not have been more wrong. It was charming but in an unexpected way.
I spent most of the day there, exploring the garden of Broughton House, Hornel’s home, the harbour, marina and then walking along the River Dee to the old bridge at Tongland. Interesting to see a fishing boat wreck with a Campbeltown registration, bit tricky to decipher the name, probably Wellspring.
Overnighting just outside Dumfries and crossing The Border tomorrow intending to explore the area around Ravenglass, and then to Higham Hall.
