Broch of Gurness and Brough of Birsay

What a treat of a day with a visit to Broch of Gurness where we were given a tour by a wonderful guide.  This is an iron age settlement visited by many people over time including the Vikings.
Next we went to Evie beach to collect shells and enjoy the vies before going to Birsay-see black and white extras.  From here we walked along to Brough of Birsay which is reached by walking across a tidal causeway.  This is a site where Pictish, Norse and Medieval remains have been discovered.  We enjoyed the viking houses very much.  Its seems to have been a real Pictish power house in its time.
