Rock and Roll All Nite
Maybe not all night, but certainly a goodly proportion of it! Which partly explains why yesterday ended up being a day where I was awake for 22 hours! Up at 5am for the car boot sale (see yesterday’s blip) we didn’t really have chance to draw breath after getting back home at lunchtime. Straight out to the supermarket to find something quick for tea. Treated ourselves to a coffee while we were out, which meant it was pretty much tea time when we got back. Then it was off to the gig. Drama as soon as we got there - the trailer carrying the gear had blown out a tyre, necessitating a hasty conversion from a four wheel trailer to a two wheel trailer! Still, got there in the end and we were able to set up. Forgotten just how much kit is actually needed for one band, but we all squeezed in somehow.
And what a great night it was. Really good to be playing to a crowd again. A few mistakes along the way (it is almost two years since we’ve done this) but the audience either didn’t spot them or didn’t care! Finally finished the second set around 12.30am so it was well past 2am by the time I got back home - and 3am by the time I’d unloaded the guitars, had a cup of tea and eventually crawled into bed.
Weirdly, it all felt incredibly normal playing music in a pub again. I think because I never went to a pub during the table service era of restrictions, I didn’t notice anything different between the pub last night (crowded, people standing in groups, dancing and singing) and the last time I was there, apart from a few signs reminding people to practice social distancing if possible - it wasn’t!
Really enjoyed being able to play with the group and at full volume. Great to see the crowd responding and joining in as well. Quite a few people took time to come up afterwards and thank us, which was gratifying. Roll on the next gig in a month’s time. Maybe a teensy bit of practice first though…
