East Neuk Day Three
The day dawned and… NO haar! I was up and out with Archie sharpish, but realised that there was actually quite a wee sea breeze. Undeterred, we all set off to walk to Anstruther. It didn’t take us as long as yesterday’s walk, but the breeze proved to be a drawback. I was able to wind my scarf round my head, which made it much better. JR has plenty of hair, but still wished she had a hat.
When we arrived in Anstruther we happened upon a wee cafe (not on the main waterfront) with good coffees and yummy croissants. And next to it was a wee gift shop with hats, scarves, nice knitwear etc. JR got a groovy warm knitted head band, which was just what was required! She was now equipped to continue with the next bit of the walk - on to Crail. Too far for me! I got the bus back to Pittenweem (it took about 7 minutes).
When I got the text to say they were nearly at Crail, I drove along to pick them up! They had passed yet another outdoor swimming pool (lido) and those amazing rock formations. JR was very excited, as the Lobster Hut was open and doing great business. BUT… as with many businesses in the East Neuk - unlike the rest of the world - they WANT CASH! Several shops have signs saying ‘Cash Only’. Including the Lobster Hut. *sigh*
So, PLAN B - go back for brunch tomorrow, with CASH! If we can find an ATM…
Back to Pittenweem for a coffee from the pub next door, and a sit out in the evening sunshine, looking at the harbour.
Archie was sick on the way home - we went a roundabout way home, and there were too many corners and potholes. He’s been such a good boy - he just fits in with us, walks for miles (sometimes he plonks down and refuses to move) sits in cafes, he has met dozens of dogs, but hasn’t barked at any of them, and doesn’t bark at the strange (new) noises in this wee house, which is right on the footpath - I think because he knows it’s not his home, so he doesn’t need to guard it. It’s been nice to have him with us for a change, though it has meant that it’s very much a walking holiday, and I’m exhausted!
Home tomorrow, via the Lobster Hut!!
Just watching the 6pm news. Absolutely sickening news from Kabul.
