East Neuk Day Two
A (short) East Neuk coastal walk, from Pittenweem to St Monan’s. The morning haar eventually burned off, so the walk back along the coast was very hot. There are two outdoor swimming pools, one at each village. On the way back, both were busy with swimmers of all ages, and board paddlers (paddle-boarders?). Archie even popped in and just stood there, up to his armpits, so hot was he.
It was only about 1.5 miles, suggested walk time 30 minutes. Took us more than an hour. I had to keep sitting down, but there are plenty of benches right along the path. We had to stop for a photo opportunity at the Welly Garden!
We had a fairly decent coffee when we arrived ar St Monans - quite surprising, and much appreciated - and then walked on through the village to the church, which you couldn’t enter anyway. Back through town and the famous East Pier Smokehouse was open. I’d tried to book yesterday, but their website was down. However, we managed to get a table and had langoustines. Yum yum.
A slow walk back because it was so hot, then I had to have a lie down to recover. But first I booked for tea in the pub/chippie next door. And very good it was too - Archie was plied with treats by the owner. Then an evening walk along to the wee harbour - irresistible when the tide is in.
There was a fisherman unloading a catch, so we went along to investigate. He had dozens of trays of huge crabs! I asked why we never see crabs on offer here, and he said that they’d be on a plane to China tomorrow night! He’s not bothered by BREXIT and not being able to export to the EU any more - his buyer just went and got a new market! Good on him, a young chap, with a flash two-hulled type boat, and he goes out on his own, which sounds slightly dangerous to me. Perhaps he’ll only do it for a few years and make his fortune. His wife and baby were there to meet him.
I am totally stuffed. (13, 754 steps!!) Another walk is planned for tomorrow…
