Bees in lavender
When I built my compost heap out of pallets, I thought adding plants around it would make it blend in with the surrounding setting and look nicer.
I've now got hebe, lavender and a vine (gifted by a fellow plotholder) covering the pallets in the summer, plus spring bulbs and planters made out of coffee sacks filled with annuals like muscari, daffodils, sweet peas, nasturtium and small sunflowers.
A couple of years ago I added a bee hotel. In the summer, the area is now buzzing with bees gorging on the lavender and with easy access to water with the nearby pond.
I'd love to claim I carefully planned the design but, like the best things in gardening, it all happened organically and it works!
