Seeing Beyond Looking

Hôtel de Ville

La grue (crane) is the symbol of the Gruyère region.  You can see them everywhere. I loved this hanging sign on a hotel and restaurant where we ate twice.  I like it particularly because we can also see the silhouette of the Moléson mountain which we climbed!

These photos were all taken in the early morning or early evening.

Grue (stork):
The name is derived either from gruyer, a forestry officer, or from the crane (grue), the bird crest of the powerful counts of La Gruyère (923–1555). ... The principal towns of the district are Bulle, the capital, and Gruyères, the historic capital, site of the medieval castle of the counts.

Another hot and sunny day - but there seems to be a change tomorrow.
It's 27C/80.6F

Extras:
- I love this dramatic silhouette of an animal's head and included a small bell tower.
- A really beautifuil and elegant crane decorating the top part of a street lantern leading up to the castle.
- This last hanging sign is the one on our hotel called the St. Georges.
