Leith
Another day, another bus route walk. This morning we jumped on a no. 36 bus and went to it's terminus at 'Ocean Terminal'. A lot of buses go to 'Ocean Terminal' (which for those of you who don't know Edinburgh; is a shopping centre). Normally when we walk home from there we walk via the 'shared pathways' which follow the old railway line routes.
Today Ann said, 'Trixie, let's have a mooch around Leith and see how the tram line extension is progressing'. What an absolute mess Leith is at the moment. Why does the city even need trams? We have probably the best bus service in the whole of the UK.
'Ocean Terminal' was built about 20 years ago but why any one would want to shop there; we don't know. Most of the shops have relocated or closed down. The buses can't even park in their normal place because the whole of the road outside the shopping centre has been dug up.
Anyway, we had a mooch around the 'posh' area at the end of the 'Waters of Leith' (in this Blip) and then set off on our 7.24 mile walk home up Leith Walk.
What a complete and utter mess it is there. And what makes it worse, is the number of businesses (that after being in lock down) are now faced with lack of business due to customers not being able to get to them. (Check out our photo in extras). 'All businesses open as usual'?? Seriously? Do the council really believe that? To us it looks like a whole row of shops have been boarded up. That's hardly 'business as usual'???
We've not been down to Leith for ages because it's not really a very exciting place for me to walk as I have to stay on my lead, but it was interesting for my human to see what was happening re the tram line extension.
Haven't a clue when all this work is due to finish but when it is, Ann has promised me that she will take me on a tram ride down to Ocean Terminal.
