Worthy Farm
It was a stretch for me to buy my house and for a couple of years, with no funds for home improvement, my daughters and I lived in conditions that were a slight improvement on student accommodation. But they were too young to care, and I was just delighted to have a home with them.
When I reached the point when I did have some money to spend on the house, I did more than simply redecorate. Amongst other things, there were two new bedrooms: a new room built above the kitchen and a garage conversion.
I remember when the builder, Graham, was partway through the job on the garage and I thought I'd made a terrible mistake; the new room wouldn't be big enough to swing a cat! Perversely, though, once it was decorated and carpeted, and had a bed in it, it actually seemed bigger!
I was reminded of this today when we drove onto Worthy Farm, which forms part of the site of the Glastonbury Festival, because without all of the people and stages, bars and food stalls, it actually seemed smaller.
And also very nice. This year, in the absence of the festival, the farm has been set up as a family campsite. The Minx, Glastonbury nerd that she is, couldn't resist and very generously treated us to four nights here.
Unlike the festival, on this occasion we could drive up to our tent, and thus we were able to swiftly unpack, take the car down to the car park, and then wander up to the stone circle with our books and a bottle of fizz.
