The Funky Gibbon

Our friends were due to head home today, I was working at the zoo this afternoon, and Alan took the boys to see his mum for the day.   But before our Lorraine, Richard & Emily headed home, they wanted to visit the zoo, so I went with them to show them round.  The plan was that I would stay and then do my shift, but it started to rain quite heavily - Lorraine was cold and I didn't really want to get soaked through and then have to work, so we decided to call it a day, they left and I went home for an hour and had a bite to eat.  I did manage to show them quite a bit before the rain came and the highlight was the Gibbons who both went inside and were sat at the window of their enclosure.  This is Tamang, the female of the pair, she's quite a lot darker than her partner Jake, who's quite white.  I've added a funny selfie with Jake  to my extras :-)

By the time I went back to the zoo, the weather started to improve and it ended up being quite a nice afternoon.  I was covering Reptiles with a young girl called Summer, and Simon one of the keepers came for a chat.  He told us that one of the Flamingo's had laid an egg which was fertile, and he'd taken it from the nest and replaced it with an unfertilised egg, and had put it in the incubator.  He asked if we'd like to see it and took us in turn to the shed where the incubators are, turned the lights off and then shone a torch on the end of the egg so that we could see inside.  He said it's due to hatch in about a week's time and once it's ready he'll take it and put it back in the nest so it will hatch naturally.  I hope everything goes well and in a little while we'll see the chick.  I noticed some other eggs in a different kind of incubator and asked what they were and he said they were tortoise eggs.  He did the same thing and shone the torch on the egg and I could see the tiny little tortoise.

When I got home I finished painting the two little coffee tables, prepared the Sunday roast and Alan got home about 6.15pm.  We sat in the garden and had a glass of wine before dinner, and then had a chilled out evening.

Hope you've all had a good weekend and everyone's ok - I'm a bit behind on Blip again!
