Germany

I’m posting this minutes before the start of England v Germany in the European championships. As always happens, this football match brings out the worst in some of our press and some of our citizens, looking back to a conflict that ended 76 years ago.

Whilst some English people can’t move on from that, the German nation have been exemplary in learning from and atoning for their past. I’ve visited Germany many times and always feel welcome and safe there. I’m looking forward to many more visits in the near future.

Of course I want England to win but that is only about football not about history or nationalism.
