A hut with a view

The two girls who live across the road have been building a shepherd’s hut on a strip of land, which they rent from a local farmer, just behind their house and they wanted us to go and see it finished. At first it was just going to be a hut for one of the girls, who is a very keen gardener, and was using the land as an allotment. Then they became more ambitious and decided on a shepherd’s hut. They have built it almost entirely from found material, bits they were given or that people were throwing out. They were offered advice at times from the builder who lives in the village, but did all the work themselves.

The first extra gives an idea of what it is like inside. They obtained the bench-back when the local church was being refurbished and discarded the piece. It is fully insulated and they have a stove (the only thing they didn’t fit themselves), and they have lighting by solar power. It is beautifully made and furnished. We were impressed.

See the second extra for the hut in its context. That’s quite a view isn’t it. As you can see, they are currently building a greenhouse, using anything that people give them. They are not sure what they are going to do with the bath, but they never turn anything away!
