Grand tour of England (Welsh detour) day 4

Mr C, having had previous experience of trying to find a parking place at Welsh hills, had us in the car park by 8am.

We had our breakfast and waited to see if the weather would improve. But it continued to mizzle and the cloud was down over the hills so at 10 we set off for Corn Du and Pen y fan, 886 m - almost a mountain!

Lucky I persuaded him to take this more direct route from Storey Arms and not his weird unexplored way which involved biking and fording streams. We overtook a young Liverpudlian chap who said he was Covid unfit. Mr C does not believe in stopping for a rest. We came to a steeper bit to reach Corn Du which my arthritic knees and ankles struggled with. It looked a steep drop off into cloud at the edge but we didn’t linger. We followed the crowds slightly downhill then it was only a gentle incline to Pen y fan from where allegedly there are great views. Not today, but at least it was exercise.

We took a gentler path round Corn Du on the way back to avoid the steep slippy stones on the descent. From it we took the wrong path, but would he listen. It was a longer way down and when we could see the Storey Arms further up the road he did acknowledge that I was right. Not that it mattered - at least I got more steps. (15000). The whole thing only took 3.5 hours so we are back at the camp site and it is quite warm.
