Not June

A languid sort of day exacerbated by the sultry weather. As ever difficult to believe another month has passed and it’s June. The blip is the new picture on the calendar that sits above the washing machine in the kitchen with a good line of sight to the table, useful when its being used as a desk. I am pretty sure the same painting was included in a similar calendar last year. It is Kildonan by James Nairn, one of the Glasgow boys who emigrated to Wellington NZ, on account of his health apparently. My recollection of Wellington weather (in December) is that it is not unlike the west coast of Scotland, a stiff breeze and pouring rain. Kildonan is one of my favourite places on Arran. My memory of it in early summer includes masses of yellow flag iris, bluebells and red campion which are missing from the painting so I suspect it was painted in the latter half of the summer. The yellow looks like ragwort.
As expected Glasgow joins most of mainland Scotland in level 2 as of Saturday. I must book tickets for the Kelvingrove before it gets busy.
