Taking to the water

The swans had taken their new family out to the middle of the pond this morning and were practising their manoeuvres. This evening they were still out in the open water and seemed to be having some difficulty getting back across to the other side of the boardwalk to their nest - this was not made any easier by the heron blocking their route. We watched for quite some time, but they were still on the “wrong” side by the time we left. The heron had also disappeared, albeit probably momentarily. The cygnets were getting a bit weary and at least could take a rest on mother’s back (extra blip).

Let’s hope they are all still safe tomorrow.
